Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, or DBT for short, is a behaviorally based type of therapy. This means that it teaches specific skills to use to therapeutically improve your life. DBT was originally developed by a woman named Marsha Linehan in the 70's. It was developed to treat patients with borderline personality disorder, a disorder with mood dysregulation characteristics and trouble in personal relationships among other struggles. Since its inception it has become one of the most evidence based treatments for mood dysregulation disorders. These include depression, anxiety, bipolar, and addiction, self-harm, etc. The main focuses include mindfulness, emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal communication. So you learn the skills and you utilize the skills in your life to increase your ability to handle stress, reduce emotional suffering, and improve personal relationships. Tranquility Counseling Services offers DBT groups beginning each month. For more information call or email today. (801) 931-9814 or info@tranquilitycounselingutah.com.
