Adolescents with Problematic Sexual Behaviors
NOJOS Treatment (Network on Juveniles Offending Sexually)
At Tranquility Counseling we have therapists who specialize in treating adolescents who are engaging in problematic sexual behaviors. These therapists are highly trained in working with this population. Training is done through NOJOS. NOJOS is the Network on Juveniles Offending Sexually. More information can be found at nojos.net.
What are problematic sexual behaviors for teens?
Problematic sexual behaviors include, but are not limited to, the following:
-Excessive pornography use
-Engaging in "sexting" such as sending or receiving explicit photos
-Engaging in sexual behavior with others such as siblings, cousins, friends, neighbors, etc.
-Using coercion, threats, or violence to engage in sexual behaviors
Can my teen really be helped if they are engaging in problematic sexual behaviors?
The research is VERY promising. Adolescents who receive treatment have very low recidivism rates. Some studies suggest recidivism is as low as 5%. This means adolescents are very unlikely to continue in engaging in problematic sexual behaviors after treatment.
Treatment for adolescents engaging in problematic sexual behaviors is very directive. It focuses on understanding local laws governing sexual behaviors. It also focuses on understanding consent, developing empathy for others, and developing healthy life skills.
If your teen is engaging in problematic sexual behaviors, don't go it alone!
