Sylwia is a certified social worker. She earned her master's degree in social work from Utah Valley University. Sylwia was born in Poland and came to the U.S. as a refugee during the cold war. During her first few years in America, she lived in abject poverty which led her to develop a special fondness and empathy for the most vulnerable and marginalized people in society. This affection shows in the way she cares for those who feel desperate, lonely, hurt, or who simply need acceptance.
Sylwia believes that even though we all have different backgrounds, we all ultimately want the same things--to feel loved and accepted, to have a sense of freedom and accomplishment, and to feel like our lives matter. Sylwia strives to help all of her clients discover that they are worthy and capable individuals. Her method consists of listening, affirming, and developing a genuinely caring therapeutic relationship. Together with her clients she explores which of the following issues are interfering with their ability to live a happy and fulfilling life: difficult relationships, isolation, lack of goals, lack of meaning, lack of hobbies, lack of exercise, lack of sleep, and/or challenging life experiences or trauma. She helps her clients examine each area of deficit through informal friendly conversation, set goals, and celebrate every step of progress no matter how small.
Sylwia's preferred therapy methods include dialogic therapy, EMDR, walk and talk therapy, and positive psychology. Sylwia has been married for 23 years and is the mother of four sons and one daughter. Besides spending time with her family, Sylwia's interests include hiking, swimming, paddle boarding, snowshoeing, and gardening. She has an Australian cattle dog (blue heeler) that joins her on all of her adventures.
