How do I know if it's right for me?

Qualifications

Any couple looking to better understand the strengths and weaknesses of their relationship can benefit from a marriage checkup. It doesn't matter if you've been married 6 months or 25 years, if you're on the brink of divorce or just having a little rough patch. This can help everyone.

How do we assess your relationship?

You'll complete a questionnaire that measures how well you and your partner are connecting. Then we'll get together for a 60-90 minute interview to discuss everything about your relationship - how did you meet, what's working, etc. With that info, we can deep dive into your strengths and weaknesses to identify what might level-up your marriage.

FAQ

How can I talk to my spouse/partner about doing a marriage checkup? When discussing couples therapy with a hesitant partner, it's essential to approach the conversation with openness, empathy, and collaboration. Start by expressing your own desire for growth within the relationship, avoiding any blame or language that could trigger defensiveness. Use "I" statements to share your feelings (e.g., I feel this when...) and concerns without making your partner feel attacked. Listen actively and non-defensively to your partner's perspective, recognizing and managing your own feelings of defensiveness as they arise. If both of you agree to move forward, work together to address any logistical concerns and find a time to do a checkup.

Will this really help my relationship? The American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT) found that 75% of couples see an improvement in their relationship, and 90% see an improvement in their mental or physical health by seeking out marriage counseling. A marriage checkup is a great way to test the waters and see if this is something worth exploring. Reference: https://shorturl.at/MRzj0
